What Is a CourseFlow Course

Modified on Mon, 11 Sep 2023 at 05:54 PM

The Course level of CourseFlow allows you to create a workflow visual representation of a lesson plan and course outline that reflects the flow of a full semester-long course.

Course Workflow Components Representing Types of Tasks

  • Preparation: tasks that students and instructors are expected to do in preparation for the following class.
  • Lesson: activities and time allotted to synchronous, “in-class” time (e.g. lectures, labs, simulations).
  • Artifact: product that supports and demonstrations students’ learning (e.g. project, study guide).
  • Assessment: formative and summative tasks and activities to gauge progress and learning.

Role of Nodes, Sections, and Columns

  1. Nodes represent the components: preparation, lesson, artifact, or assessments and are the building blocks of a Course workflow.
  2. Columns (preparation, lesson, artifact, or assessments) are used to categorize the nodes.
  3. Sections are used to divide a workflow week by week (class by class).

More about nodes - A node at the Course level can be linked to an Activity-level workflow. This allows you to further subdivide the pedagogical component it represents. For example, a Course-level node might represent an in-class session, which can be described in further detail using an Activity-level workflow. This is particularly useful when using complex active learning techniques with many steps, or assigning complex assignments or assessments.
