Using Outcomes at the Course Level

Modified on Tue, 21 Mar, 2023 at 11:07 AM

CourseFlow helps you track the learning objectives or course outcomes by linking them to corresponding nodes.

At the course level, outcomes should be thought of as the things a student should be able to do upon completing the course. Although they aren't strictly required to plan your course, CourseFlow has a large number of tools and views that will allow you to more effectively plan your course and visualize your students' learning throughout it if outcomes are used. Because outcomes are what a student should be able to do upon completing a course, it can be helpful to see not only where the material related to the outcome was taught, but where (or whether) it has been assessed.

Outcomes might be the first part of your course that you create. This so-called backwards-design process ensures that your course design is based on achieving the learning outcomes, and not the other way around. Once created, nodes can be tagged with outcomes either as normal in the workflow view or in the outcomes table.

Note: If your course is part of a project that includes a program-level Workflow to which your course Workflow is linked, you may see the program-level outcomes in the right-hand panel when you edit your course outcomes. This allows you to create relationships between the program outcomes (which tend to be more broad) and the outcomes for your course (which are specific to your content).
