What Are Activity Level Node Categories (Columns)?

Modified on Fri, 10 Nov, 2023 at 12:15 PM

By default, Activity workflows always start with four node categories, which are represented as columns in your workflow:

  • Out of Class (Instructor)
  • Out of Class (Students)
  • In Class (Instructor)
  • In Class (Students)

When creating your Activity workflow, it is recommended to set up and organize the node categories structure first before adding nodes and sections. This is because columns within workflows are used to categorize the nodes that represent: who is doing a task (students or the teacher), where a task takes place (outside or inside a class), and what students will be doing.

Once you have set up the node categories structure, continue building your Activity workflow by adding nodes and sections (parts) to the workflow.

  • Out of Class (Instructor): nodes placed in this category represent what tasks instructors are expected to do in preparation for a class or after a class.
  • Out of Class (Students): nodes placed here represent tasks students are expected to do in preparation for a class or after a class.
  • In Class (Instructor): nodes placed in this category represent tasks instructors are expected to do in the classroom.
  • In Class (Students): nodes placed here represent tasks students  are expected to do in the classroom.
  • Additional node categories: if a fifth node category is needed, you can add one by dragging the "New Custom Activity Column" node category from the "Add to workflow" tab of the Workflow Builder.
